Wear It, Beat It - February 6th

The work the British Heart Foundation does is close to the hearts of many employees here at CSTS.  So, on Friday February 6 2015, we'll be wearing red and supporting the British Heart Foundation's "Wear It, Beat It" day.

More information on the work the foundation does and how you can get involved and help raise money is available on their website www.bhf.org.uk.

"ABOUT WEAR IT. BEAT IT.

"One in four of our loved ones are lost to heart and circulatory disease, so on 6 February we’re asking the nation to show their support by wearing red and hosting an event to fund our life-saving research.

"Whoever you are doing it for, and whatever you decide to wear, you can get involved in your workplace, school or with friends and family.

"Hosting an event is easy and we’ve got loads of ideas to help get you started."

(DIET FREE ZONE) - A Piece Of Cake For CSTS Fundraiser

Clatterbridge.jpg

Now who says cake is bad for you ? Not a chance at least ....Well at least that's the view of enterprising staff at CSTS> what came next was a novel challenge to raise money for Clatterbridge Hospital, that involved the abandonment of diets and calorie counting....but hey it was for a good cause.

Charity Cake of course contains 100% of your RDA of all vitamins and minerals and is calorie free. It's also full of goodness and assists with both well-being and morale of staff...and who can argue with these facts.

Through sheer grit and determination the CSTS team, targeted to eat as many delicious fresh cakes a week they could in the name of Clatterbridge Hospital. With a small donation per cake, CSTS staff munched their way through hundreds of cakes raising nearly £600 in the process for the worthy cause.

Although perhaps not as strenuous as other money raising challenges, CSTS MD Gordon Lyon was delighted with the commitment to the cake challenge.

If you’re going to raise money for charity it’s much easier if you can enjoy doing it.
I’m very proud of the team for raising so much money for Clatterbridge, the staff are now requesting I install a running manchine in the office as they return to a healthier regime.
— Gordon Lyon MD

Perhaps the next phase of raising money will be sponsored weight loss, but we will "Weight" until after Christmas

Construction Safety - 40% of Sites Putting Workers at Risk

Nearly half of construction sites fail HSE spot-checks.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is urging managers of construction sites ensure their sites are safe and have the basic health and safety measures in place. The call to action comes after a month long inspection by the Executive found that 40% of sites are failing to prevent workers’ risk.

Nearly half of the repair and refurbishment sites inspected had unacceptable conditions and were demonstrating dangerous practices. HSE inspectors found conditions at 1 in 5 sites so unacceptable that formal enforcement action was required. Many of the issues uncovered by inspectors could have been easily prevented with straightforward management and planning.

IOSH Working Safely Course Gets Construction Industry Recognition

IOSH are delighted to announce that their Working safely  course has been recognised as an equivalent to a Level 1 Award in health and safety in a construction environment.

This means that delegates who successfully complete Working safely  can apply for a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) green Labourer card once they have also passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Operative test.

IOSH have been working closely with CSCS over the past five months to achieve this recognition, bringing Working safely in line with their new national occupational standard. That’s because IOSH know it’s important to so many of you who recognise Working safely  as being world–class training.  The green card will allow easier access to construction sites across the UK which will be a great benefit to clients and delegates.
